2- The silicon used to produce crystalline modules is derived from sand. It is the second most common element on earth, so why is it so expensive? The answer is that, in order to produce the photovoltaic effect, it must be purified to an extremely high degree. Such pure "semiconductor grade" silicon is very expensive to produce.
It is also in high demand in the electronics industry because it is the base material for computer chips and other devices.
3- Competition is minimal.
4- Fotovoltaic energies such as solar power are, for the most part, still more expensive than conventional energies because they have only been used on a comparatively small scale so far.
But remember, Solar power and other forms of renewable energy, and the inevitable hydrogen economy that will follow in post oil days will do many things, but only a serious, wide scale and major commitment at a society and individual level will stop global warming.
Fotovoltaic energy will help certainly, and solar power has a role to play in the solution of high cost of energy.

Consumption With A Kill A Watt
I was amazed at some of the things I found around the house that draw power just sitting there doing nothing. This thing is easy to figure out and program in your cost per Kwh.A couple of things I found by using this device:
-- the entertainment center costs me $15 a year to have just sit there in standby mode. This is a 42" LCD TV, surroundsound system, DVD player, Wii, If I watch a DVD or play the Wii, it costs me 40 cents a day, or about 3.33 cents an hour.
-- My gaming computer (Dual Core, 500 watt power supply and 19" LCD) cost me $99 a year to run 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. That includes the occasional laser printing and occasional 2.1 speaker usage. So I turn it off more often.
-- Cell phone charger: .86 cents a year, but when charging it costs me $1.73 a year.
-- New coffee pot costs me between 5-7 cents to brew a pot of coffee and let it sit for a couple hours.
-- Toaster at 350-degrees costs me about 11 cents an hour.
-- Dell laptop charger costs me about $1.70 a year to keep it plugged in. It's about a penny and hour to charge the laptop's battery.
-- NOAA handheld weather radio costs 86 cents a year to run 24/7
In the end, it seems like it is only really worth the trouble to unplug the entertainment center when not in use and turn off the computer more often. Sure, everything draws power, but we factored in the hassle of it versus the cost.
We have been unplugging stuff around the house when we are not home, and began to wonder how much we are saving. This thing has helped out in deciding what's worth going through the hassle of unplugging each time, and the results are almost instantaneous. I highly recommend using this device to settle the score in the fight against wasted energy usage or even in helping decide which devices/appliances around your house aren't worth owning due to ridiculous power draws. So thinking about buying a kill o watt tool is great tool to have and start saving money,and it also helps when you are ready to buy a solar system,you will be surprise to save thousand $$$$.

This meter was to calculate which electrical devices and appliances I would be able to connect to the small solar power system I currently have, and to find out which electrical devices and appliances are sucking up the most power in hopes to figure out a way to reduce overall power consumption.

Inverters come in different brands and sizes ,but we need to know their functions and features as well, we can start by identify basic waveforms types and properties.A wave form is the shape of an electrical signal that varies overtime.
Also the basic types of inverters used in PV system,PV modules produce variables DC power.However,most electrical appliance operate using AC loads, so DC power must be transformed into AC in order to be useful.Inverters allow to operate both AC and DC electrical loads.
Inverters for PV systems are broadly classified as either stand-alone or interactive inverters.The difference is whether the inverter is installed on a Pv array or the battery bank.Pv arrays and batteries have different characteristics which affects inverter design.
Stand-alone inverters are connected to the batteries as the DC power and operate independently of the PV array and the utility grid.PV modules charge the batteries but do not directly influence the operation of the inverter.
Interactive inverters are connected to, and operate in parallel with,the electric utility grid.Interactive inverters are loaded by the DC source,not the AC output,so AC loads do not directly impact the operation of the inverter.Before the purchase of an inverter differentiate between inverters and power.Solar inverters used in PV systems include a number of basic and optinal features,such as performance data,operating limits,installation requirements,safety,and maintenance.All the information is located on the inverters nameplate and product manuals.
The principal inverters specification is the power rating.Stand- alone inverter the power rating limit the power it can deliver to AC loads,interactive inverter ,the power rating limits the power it can handle at its DC input.
Inverters are available from many manufacturers from 700Watt for small residential system to over 500KW for commercial and utility scale.
